DTCM overseas promotion to be more aggressive in 2005

The Dubai Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing (DTCM) is pushing ahead its aggressive marketing promotions in 2005 by adding more trade shows to its list of overseas promotions to tap fast-emerging source markets like China.

In January alone, the DTCM, along with its co-participants from the Dubai’s booming tourism industry, is participating in six exhibitions.

The DTCM is participating, for the first time, in China in a major way through its presence in the World Travel Fair to be held from January 20 to 23. In addition, the department will be conducting Road shows in the US for the first time to tap this important market.

The DTCM Director Operations and Marketing Mr. Mohammed Khamis bin Hareb, said, “The aggressive marketing drive by the department has been witnessing unprecedented success as Dubai attracts increasing number of visitors year on year while the DTCM attracts increased participation for its Road shows and exhibitions.”

The department is participating in 31 exhibitions,and is conducting a total of 12 road shows all over the world, a 70 per cent increase over 2004.

Among the trade exhibitions that Dubai is participating in include the Mediterranean Travel Fair 2005 (MTF), the World Travel Market 2005 (WTM), The Arabian Travel Market 2005 (ATM), Leisure 2005, Reiseliv 2005, Matka 2005, Ferien 2005 and ITB 2005.

The exhibitions and road shows cover Norway, Finland, Austria, China, Spain, Switzerland, Italy, UK, Czech Republic, Australia, Turkey, India, Germany, USA, Sweden, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, France, Japan, Lebanon, Ukraine, and South Africa.

Dubai attracted close to five million hotel guests in 2003 and an impressive increase in the year 2004 is expected. There has been significant increase in the number of visitors from several established and new source markets for the Dubai tourism industry.
