Japan Airlines (JAL) is to provide free transportation of relief goods and support staff from Japan to the USA as a contribution to aid from Japan in the wake of Hurricane Katrina.

From today, JAL will provide free transport to staff of public organizations, such as the Japanese Red Cross and Japanese aid organizations that the airline has worked with in the past, until further notice. Relief staff will be able to travel free-of-charge from Japan on the following JAL routes (excluding JAL code share flights operated by other airline partners):

1) Tokyo (Narita) - Chicago (O'Hare)
2) Tokyo (Narita) - San Francisco
3) Tokyo (Narita) - Los Angeles
4) Tokyo (Narita) - Las Vegas
5) Tokyo (Narita) - New York (JFK)
6) Osaka (Kansai) - Los Angeles

From September 6, JAL will also carry free-of-charge Japanese non-profit organizations' relief goods and materials on its five times-a-week B747 air cargo freighter service operating between Tokyo (Narita) and Atlanta, the nearest JAL-served airport to the disaster-affected area.

These arrangements only apply to relief goods and staff sent from Japan.
