SAS Cargo takes over Sterling's freight activities

Travel News Asia 30 September 2005

SAS Cargo takes over Sterling's freight activities, formerly Maersk Air Cargo, from 1 October 2005. The takeover includes the freight sales agency for eight foreign airlines in the Nordic and Baltic countries and also 22 employees.

The acquisition is part of SAS Cargo's long-term strategy for growth and gaining of market shares and at the same time being able to develop the freight capacity in close cooperation with the customers. The former Maersk Air Cargo employees will join a new-established sales agency organisation (GSA) in SAS Cargo Group.

"With the takeover of this activity a new and exciting chapter in the SAS Cargo history begins as we will - in addition to our current business - also focus on growth in the freight agency business and will be selling freight capacity on aircrafts not owned by the SAS Group."

"With this we are able to offer freight customers transport solutions from the Nordic and Baltic countries, which previously were not possible," said Kenneth Marx, President and CEO of SAS Cargo Group A/S.
