Accor to manage new Hotel in Hyderabad

Travel News Asia 26 May 2005

Emaar Properties in the Middle East has awarded Accor the management contract for Novotel Hyderabad, which will serve the Cyberabad Convention Centre currently being built by the Dubai-based property developer along with its joint venture partner Andhra Pradesh Industrial Infrastructure Corporation Limited, in India's fastest growing high-technology corridor.

The Centre, India's largest and first purpose built convention centre, will open in December 2005 followed by the 300 rooms Novotel in March 2006, both in time for an Asian Development Bank meeting scheduled in Hyderabad for May 2006.

The Cyberabad Convention Centre will offer 13,000sqm of space for 3,900 delegates in the main hall, with four breakout halls adjoining the main venue. An additional 12 meeting rooms are also available. The main convention hall can accommodate 6,160 seats in a concert / rally configuration.

Accor Asia Pacific Chairman, David Baffsky, said the group was delighted to initiate its business relationship with Emaar and Accor looked forward to putting Hyderabad on the international map.

"Emaar is a visionary developer that continues to open up and develop new destinations," said Mr Baffsky.

"We believe the Cyberabad development will continue to fuel Hyderabad's high technology boom that has already attracted the world's leading computer software and hardware companies to the area."

Novotel Hyderabad is the first new build Novotel for Accor in India and part of an aggressive expansion for the group and its hotel brands around the country. In March Accor and InterGlobe Enterprises announced the launch of two joint venture companies, InterGlobe Hotels to develop a network of up 25 Ibis hotels around India in the next 10 years, and another company to manage hotels under its Sofitel, Novotel and Mercure brands.

The hotel will offer two restaurants, including Novotel's signature The Square restaurant, swimming pool, fitness centre and business centre. The convention centre complex is near the Hitex Exhibition Centre that first opened in 2003. The venue will include eight stand-alone exhibition halls when fully completed.
