Hertz NeverLost makes Navigation easy in Europe

Travel News Asia 24 November 2005

One of the greatest challenges of a road trip through Europe is navigating through multiple countries and languages.

To combat this, Hertz is now offering a unique solution for visitors to Europe – the Hertz NeverLost navigation system, which provides detailed guidance through 27 countries, in a choice of 11 languages.

“Hertz NeverLost is already in use in the USA, where it is a great success,” said Kevin Doyle, International Sales and Marketing Manager for Hertz Australia.

“Now, with detailed mapping for 27 nations and a choice of languages for voice-guidance, the next generation of Hertz NeverLost will give our customers the confidence to drive themselves throughout Europe,” said Mr Doyle.

“This system will also contain a detailed database of Hertz locations, so that renters can find our nearest location when they need to return their car, or if they have problems during their journey.”

The Hertz NeverLost system will be introduced progressively from this month at selected Hertz locations throughout the UK and Europe.

Powered by Magellan technology and supplied by US-based Thales Navigation Systems, the European version of Hertz NeverLost initially will be available at participating Hertz locations in the UK, Ireland, France, Germany, Italy and Netherlands.

By the end of this year, Hertz NeverLost also will be introduced in Spain, with Hertz Belgium, Switzerland and Sweden next to offer the system from early 2006.

The colour, touch-screen Hertz NeverLost Portable delivers convenient navigation capabilities that allow drivers to find destinations quickly, detour around traffic, plan routes to multiple destinations and more.

Hertz NeverLost Portable also features the Magellan SayWhere™ technology, an industry-first text-to-speech option that announces street names for upcoming manoeuvres.

Travellers can easily access turn-by-turn directions just by touching the point-of-interest icon on the screen.

So detailed is the Hertz NeverLost system that users can even search restaurants by cuisine.

The Hertz NeverLost Portable even provides automatic volume control so it can be heard above wind and traffic noise when the vehicle reaches higher speeds.

As well, this system features the QuickSpell feature for easy data entry and a larger, brighter and clearer display for greater visibility than competing systems.

“Hertz NeverLost will play a key part in our ongoing service enhancement strategy, and will be a major point of difference for customers renting in Europe,” said Mr Doyle.

“And working with a strong partner such as Thales, we will have the opportunity to add to the existing functionality as their technology evolves.”
