Tiger Airways S$9.98 Singapore-Phuket Fare Selling Fast

Travel News Asia 24 January 2005

Tiger Airways, a low fare airline based in Singapore, announced today that more than 2,000 of Tiger Airways’ 20,000 special low-fare S$9.98 (one way) tickets to Phuket were sold in just three days.

“The Tourism Authority of Thailand is pleased with such encouraging results of its joint promotion with Tiger Airways. Visitors are starting to come back to Phuket’s many attractive hotels, restaurants, tourist attractions and entertainment outlets,” said Khun Eumporn Jiragalwisul, Director of Tourism Authority of Thailand, Singapore.

In addition to the low air fares by Tiger Airways, the Tourism Authority of Thailand has also worked with the Phuket Tourist Business Association to offer special room rates to Tiger Airways passengers.

“We are grateful that many Singaporeans have taken Tiger Airways’ special fares. This is a fantastic way to get Phuket tourism back to its former glory and provide much needed jobs to help rebuild its livelihood. Hoteliers in Phuket are already seeing a dramatic 100% increase in enquiries and reservations as a result of the low fare and are excited at the response to the hotel rates offered. They view this milestone as the start of Phuket’s recovery,” added Khun Eumporn.

Chipping in was an enthusiastic Khun Krisda Kaewyu, manager of Hotel Deevana Patong Resort & Spa at Patong Beach, who said, ”We have received more than 60 calls and 20 reservations so far, since Tiger Airways and the Tourism Authority of Thailand invited Singapore journalists to visit the island and see for themselves that life is returning to normal. We look forward to showing all our returning guests what true Thai hospitality is really like.”

“Tiger Airways is confident that Phuket will be back on its feet soon enough. The brisk ticket sale is a resounding ‘YES’ from Singaporeans to help fill empty hotels, restaurants and shops in Phuket. We expect our remaining tickets to go very fast so people should book now to secure their seats,” says Tony Davis, chief executive officer of Tiger Airways.

Tiger Airways’ offer of 20,000 low fare seats to Phuket from Singapore for travel by April 2005 at the low fare of just S$9.98 (one way) went on sale on 21 January 2005. The offer lasts till 6 February 2005. Special room rates at participating hotels are available for Tiger Airways passengers, valid up to 30 April 2005.
