Hilton Kuala Lumpur wins 2005 International Five Star Diamond Award

Travel News Asia 21 February 2005

The new Hilton Kuala Lumpur has won the prestigious 2005 International Five Star Diamond Award, even before the high-end hotel property has completed its half year of business operations. The hotel opened its doors on September 22, 2004.

Hilton Kuala Lumpur has earned recognition for Hilton International, as it is the first property under the world-wide group to win this international award. The award also ranks the recently opened hotel among the more established luxury hotels in Kuala Lumpur such as Mandarin Oriental, Ritz Carlton and Shangri-La, which were award recipients last year.

Bestowed by the American Academy of Hospitality Sciences based in New York, USA, this highly regarded award is accorded to recipients for their commitment towards excellence in luxury and service, with in-depth evaluations conducted on service delivery, facilities, ambience, attitude, gastronomy, cleanliness and above all, hospitality standards.

The award was presented by Ms Mary Gostelow, the Trustee of the Star Diamond Award to Mr Kees Hartzuiker, General Manager of Hilton Kuala Lumpur, at a simple yet memorable ceremony held within the hotel’s premises and attended by staff from various divisions. The international awards ceremony will be held in Berlin, Germany, in March 2005.

Commenting on this achievement earned by Hilton Kuala Lumpur, Mr Hartzuiker extended credit and due recognition to all the team members who worked tirelessly to put Hilton Kuala Lumpur onto the global hospitality map, particularly so during the critical months leading up to the opening and the first three months thereafter.

“We are indeed honoured to receive this highly-coveted award that recognises achievement and quality for it reflects the serious commitment of every team member towards delivering the Hilton brand, customer services and hospitality to all our guests and customers alike.”

“The International Star Diamond Award is rated as the most esteemed emblem of achievement and true quality. It is an award that many companies strive to win, but few obtain the recognition.”

“This achievement can be considered as the hotel’s contribution towards raising the perception of Malaysia’s hospitality industry. We are confident that we can set a new benchmark for the country’s hospitality and tourism sectors to emulate through our Hilton service standards as well as outstanding facilities and innovative concepts,” added Mr. Hartzuiker.

As the new flagship property for Hilton International’s 80 hotels throughout the Middle-East and Asia-Pacific, the Hilton Kuala Lumpur has already scored many ‘first’ records within the hospitality industry. The Hilton Kuala Lumpur is the only five-star hotel in Malaysia to date to have all its 510 guestrooms equipped with the latest 42-inch plasma TVs. The bathrooms come with LCD screens. Some of the hotel’s 32 suites even have two TV units.

The hotel features seven themed restaurants and bars, including the award-winning restaurant, ‘Senses’. This fine-dining restaurant is located within a three-storey dome-like complex called Studio which is an integrated F&B zone that has been a hit among KL residents. Studio has established a significant following among the young and hip professional crowd as a choice place to meet, dine, enjoy a wide selection of wine as well as be entertained within a creative and colourful setting, one of the finest in the city.
