Rolls-Royce wins $600 Million Share of Indian Engine Order

Search ASIA Travel Tips .com 21 October 2005

Rolls-Royce has won business worth $600 million as its share of an order for V2500 engines from IndiGo, an Indian low-cost start-up airline.

Delhi-based IndiGo has selected the V2500 to power a fleet of 100 Airbus A320 family aircraft. It is the single biggest firm order ever received by International Aero Engines (IAE), the consortium which produces the V2500, in which Rolls-Royce is a senior shareholder.

Mike Terrett, President – Civil Aerospace at Rolls-Royce, said, “This is a significant, strategic success for IAE and Rolls-Royce in the burgeoning Indian market. It also means that the V2500 remains the only engine type selected by private sector airlines in India which have ordered the A320 series of airliners.”

IndiGo becomes the launch customer for V2500Select, a combined engine upgrade and aftermarket support programme, which improves fuel burn, reduces operating costs and offers time-on-wing improvements. Engine upgrades are planned to be released to production in 2008 and will be retrofittable to the in-service fleet.

The V2500-A5 engine is available at seven different thrust ratings from 22,000lb to 33,000lb, powering the Airbus A319, A320, A321 and the A319 Corporate Jet.
