Bangkok Airways teams up with Visa International to enhance online ticketing Security

Travel News Asia 14 June 2005

Visa International and Bangkok Airways have teamed up to enhance online security by offering Verified by Visa on the airline’s website.

Verified by Visa enables card issuers to authenticate the identity of Visa cardholders who are shopping online, using a pre-registered password known only to the cardholder. Cardholders can therefore carry out transactions in an environment that is as secure in the virtual world as it is in the physical world.

Cardholders will have the assurance that only they can use their Visa cards to make Bangkok Airways ticket purchases over the Internet. Verified by Visa also enables the merchant to be guaranteed of payment, therefore reducing the risk and costs of online disputes.

There are now over 360 million Visa cardholders around the world, including 1.2 million in Thailand, enrolled with Verified by Visa. 56,000 leading Internet merchants worldwide are also offering the Visa authentication service. Thailand’s banks and merchants first adopted the service in 2003, with 620 of Thailand’s leading e-commerce merchants now using Verified by Visa to authenticate online transactions.

Visa International Country Manager for Thailand, Mr Somboon Krobteeranon, said, “Airlines and travel-related services are among top online purchases for e-shoppers around the world. We are delighted to see Bangkok Airways, one of the major e-merchants in Thailand, committed to enhancing online security. We are confident that Internet shopping will further accelerate in Thailand.”

“Verified by Visa authentication provides protection against unauthorized online usage of payment cards and is a valuable enhancement to Bangkok Airway’s online booking service. It will make online booking and ticketing more appealing to the growing number of global passengers who prefer the convenience and benefits of e-commerce,” Mr Somboon added.

From now to 31 August 2005, Visa cardholders who purchase two or more tickets on Bangkok Airways at the airline’s website using Verified by Visa authentication will have a chance to win one Bangkok Airways ticket on any domestic route within Thailand. A total of 30 tickets will be given away during the promotional period.

Bangkok Airways currently flies to eight domestic destinations and thirteen destinations around the region and China including Guilin, Hangzhou, Hong Kong, Jinghong, Luang Prabang, Maldives, Phnom Penh, Shenzhen, Siem Reap, Singapore, Xi’an, Yangon, and Zhenzhou.
