Singapore Airlines to Increase Capacity in Northern Summer Schedule

Travel News Asia 14 January 2005

Singapore Airlines (SIA) plans to increase capacity on existing routes by just over 5% (annualised), when the Northern Summer schedule comes into effect on 27 March 2005. The new schedules offer increased frequencies to cities in the airlines global network where demand is high.

Frequencies to Hanoi, Fukuoka and Christchurch will be increased to daily, while frequencies to Mumbai increase from the present 12 per week to twice-daily.

An additional two frequencies a week will be added to both Brisbane and Melbourne, meaning SIA will serve each of the major Australian cities of Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane non-stop, three times daily, every day. These additional flights will also further increase the connection opportunities between Australia and other growth regions such as North Asia. Growth to Brisbane is particularly strong, with SIA having tripled its capacity in just four years. In total, SIA will operate to Australia 84 times weekly.

SIA will also increase frequencies to its new China gateway of Shenzhen, from three to five flights per week. Shenzhen was added to the SIA network in early 2004. Along with services to Hong Kong and Guangzhou, SIA will operate 47 flights per week to the Pearl River Delta.

Frequency to Athens will increase from two to three times weekly for the summer season. All increases are subject to government approval.
