Qantas Holidays today launched a Rediscover Thailand campaign in conjunction with the Tourism Authority of Thailand.

Head of Qantas Holidays, Simon Bernardi, said Thailand had always been one of the most popular destinations for Qantas Holidays customers and urged Australian travellers to get behind the post-tsunami tourism recovery drive.

"Thailand is dear to our heart and we hope our new marketing campaign, developed in conjunction with the Tourism Authority of Thailand, will help the country's vital tourism industry get back on its feet," Mr Bernardi said.

"I am very pleased to announce that - again, with the support of the Tourism Authority of Thailand - Qantas Holidays will operate a series of special charters to Phuket (subject to government approval), similar to the very successful charters we operated in 2004."

The first of six Qantas Holidays charters, to depart each week from Sydney, will commence on 20 June 2005, using an Australian Airlines Boeing 767 aircraft. The charters will provide the only direct non-stop service to the island from Sydney, with package prices starting from A$1099 (plus surcharges, fees & taxes).

Mr Bernardi said Qantas Holidays would provide similar charter programs in September and October.

"Thailand is a top five destination for Qantas Holidays with around 900 customers travelling there each week.

"We expect Thailand to quickly regain its popularity with Australian holidaymakers," he said.

"Thailand offers so many different experiences, from the vibrant and colourful Bangkok to the stunning beaches of Phuket and the tranquillity of Chiang Mai at the foothills of the Himalaya."

Qantas Holidays' special Rediscover Thailand deals include return flights to Phuket with eight nights' accommodation and airport transfers from A$1089 per person twin share, plus surcharges, fees and taxes of A$155. Seasonal surcharges and conditions apply.
