JW Marriott Phuket Resort and Spa Expands Popular Team Building Programs

Travel News Asia 10 May 2005

Corporate teambuilding programs continue to increase in popularity at the JW Marriott Phuket Resort and Spa. In addition to existing programs, including its popular “Survivor Phuket” program, the resort has expanded its range of teambuilding options both on and off property. All programs can be tailor made to suit each client’s individual requirements.

Teambuilding is an excellent way to introduce an educational, fun-filled activity into a conference program and often is the highlight of the conference. Participants are required to co-operate and share resources to succeed, which also provides opportunities for building trust, tolerance and understanding that can then be used in both professional and personal situations.

Corporate clients and meeting planners can now choose from the following options – choosing a program to suit the theme of the conference – or even build the conference theme around the event.

Diamond - Survivor Phuket - A very high impact teambuilding activity that takes guests out of the resort, and their comfort zone, and into the realm of teambuilding in a realistic setting. Teams navigate their way to different islands by speedboat and compete to complete various challenges.

Sapphire – Island Adventure Program - This program is an exciting blend of a teambuilding program on a beautiful island, along with lunch on the beach and a chance for colleagues to get to know each other in a setting far from the meeting room.

Emerald – Initiative Program - Located on the resort grounds, this activity presents the group with a series of problem solving and initiative challenges that focus on specific areas of teamwork such as communication, leadership, use of strengths, planning and trust. Teams will be required to complete a series of objectives which will be followed by short debriefs.

Ruby – JW Marriott Explorer Challenge - This activity is set up around the resort’s exquisite landscape. It involves a series of different problem solving and initiative challenges that teams must find and complete. The activity is a competition between teams and all activities must be completed within a pre-designated time.

Topaz – JW Marriott Energizer Program - Some groups may not have time to participate in a full or half day program during their stay. Therefore, the hotel has designed a short, fun (15-30 minute) energizer program that groups can use before, during or after their meetings to get everyone’s energy levels up – can also be used as an ice breaker.

Corporate Leisure Program Options

Platinum – Half Day Speedboat sightseeing tour of Phang Nga Bay - This tour visits all the famous landmarks including James Bond Island, Koh Hong and the Sea Gypsy Village. An optional 1 hour guided Sea Kayak Tour can be arranged through the caves and mangroves.

Gold – Rang Yai Island Adventure -This tour can be either a full or half day. The group can relax on a beautiful beach or participate in various activities including pitch and putt golf, mountain biking, beach volleyball, petanque, darts and kayaking.

Silver – Half Day Snorkeling Tour - A relaxing tour to the beautiful Kai Nok Island where guests can swim, snorkel and relax at their leisure. The tour guides can take interested guests snorkeling to the outer reefs and teach beginners how to snorkel.

Bronze – Adventure Jeep Safari - This tour takes the group up into the highlands of Phuket in 4WD Jeeps where guests will ride elephants, see how monkeys are trained to pick coconuts and about the many uses of coconuts, how a Thai curry is prepared, how rubber is traditionally tapped and made into latex, ride a water buffalo, and watch a baby elephant show.
