The Pimalai on Kan Tiang Beach, Koh Lanta, Thailand - not just one of the best resorts in Thailand but one of the best in Asia

Pimalai Resort & Spa

Pictures, special rates and online reservations from the outstanding Pimalai Resort & Spa on Kan Tiang Beach, Koh Lanta, Thailand

The 5-star Pimalai Resort & Spa opened on 1st November 2001. Since then, the hotel has won numerous awards, not just for its stunning location, excellent accommodation options, nor the wide choice of facilities available to guests, but also for its commitment in preserving the environment. Pimalai was awarded a “Green Gold Class Certificate” by Thailand's Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment; it also finally received a PADI Gold Palm Resort membership for its Dive Center - Pimalai Divers - the best dive operator on Koh Lanta.

Koh Lanta is a very quiet and natural destination with its own charm. The island is still largely unspoiled, offers some beautiful beaches, superb low and green mountain backdrops where wildlife can still be found and is close to some of the most highly rated diving spots in Thailand.

Pimalai Resort & Spa is built on a splendid 100 acres of hilly land of lush tropical forest with direct access to a 900 meters pristine sandy beach. A great emphasis has been placed by the architects to preserve the environment when designing the low rise southern style buildings, and the result is a resort which complements the setting rather than competing with it.

The property is located approximately 2hrs to 2hrs30 (pending on season) from Krabi International Airport and is reached by the resort’s private minibus and cruising boat. The accommodation of restful low-density and of a southern style design, are nestled in this magnificent lush tropical forest, overlooking Kan Tiang Beach / Bay, which many argue is the best beach and bay on the island.

In December 2005, the Pimalai opened 39 stunning Pool Villas. The elegantly appointed one, two and three bedrooms pool villas are located on the hillside, some 60 meters above sea level and provide breathtaking views of the majestic Andaman sea and the surrounding lush tropical vegetation.

Today the resort’s facilities consist of, a combined 121 Deluxe Rooms, Pavilion Suites, Beach Villas and Pool Villas, all with a contemporary Thai style design, two breathtaking infinity-edge freshwater swimming pools, a PADI dive center (which runs from November to April), a large fitness room with high quality fitness equipment, 2 floodlight tennis courts, library lounges offering free high speed internet access, shops and meeting facilities for up to 80 persons.

To enhance this ultimate retreat experience, the Pimalai features 5 dining options for guest to choose from, all complemented by an award winning wine cellar.

The Pimalai, which is open year round, offers guests a wide range of activities - including canoeing, sailing, scuba diving (Nov – Apr), bicycling, trekking, tennis courts, Thai cooking classes, and even intimate wedding ceremonies.

Guests can also revitalize in the Pimalai Spa that offers a host of Oriental therapeutic treatments using mainly Thai herbal and natural products.

In addition to the ultra-luxury Pool Villas, the Pimalai feature 75 elegantly appointed rooms and suites, offering king size and twin beds, decorated in classy contemporary Thai style design. All rooms have, in addition to the below: personal electronic safe, tea and coffee making facilities, direct dial telephone, satellite remote control TV, CD/DVD player, hair dryer, clothes line, refrigerator, minibar, cotton bathrobe and slippers.

Deluxe Room – 64 units: Sixteen clusters of two-storey buildings of southern Thai style architecture, containing four rooms. Each air-conditioned room has 48 square meters of living space with polished teak wood floor, rich Thai cotton upholstery, Bamboo curtains, and beautiful Siamese artifacts. The bedroom equipped with king size or twin beds open onto a large balcony equipped with wooden furniture and a cooling overhead fan. The adjacent large bathroom includes bathtub, separate walk-in shower and toilets.

Bayfront Deluxe Room – 4 units: Each air conditioned deluxe room, equipped with king size bed has more than 70 square meters of living space and offers refined Thai style interior design. The large bathroom features a bathtub overlooking the bay, separate walk-in shower and toilets.

Pavilion Suite – 7 units: Pavilion Suites are available in combination of one (2 units) and two bedrooms (5 units), offering a living space from 110 square meters up to 170 square meters. A separate lounge with outside wooden sun deck opens onto the bay as well as onto a private miniature garden planted with ferns and tropical plants. A corridor leads into the bedroom and the bathroom. Featured in the oversized bathroom is a bathtub overlooking another secluded manicured garden which is also equipped with an open air shower. All suite master bedrooms are equipped with a king size bed; in the Pavilion Suites 2 Bedrooms, the second bedroom is equipped with twin beds and also features a second oversized bathroom of the same design. The second bedroom is well detached from the main building and therefore offers complete privacy to its occupants.

The Pool Villas: Each Villa has a total living area of 204 sqm built on a piece of hilly land ranging from 700 to 1000sqm approximately. Spacious, elegant and unpretentious in their architectural design, they provide commanding views of Ba Kan Tiang Bay and the surrounding lush tropical forest. The villa consists of a master bedroom facing the bay; featured in the adjacent large bathroom is a “rain-shower” and a large bathtub set behind a window panel overlooking the bay. The bedroom opens onto a spacious sundeck featuring a private 5.5 x 3 meters infinity edge swimming pool and a Thai sala allowing private Spa treatment whenever needed. The nearby kitchenette will allow you, if you wish, to prepare your favorite meal or snack. Across the sundeck, the spacious living room opens onto a balcony terrace and is equipped with elegant furniture, TV and CD’s/DVD’s components. The existing sofa bed can be converted into a bed for visiting friend who will also be provided with privacy with the adjacent bathroom equipped with shower, vanity basin and toilets. Some of the Villas are designed with 2 bedrooms offering a living space of 279 sqm, or 3 bedrooms offering then a living space of 422sqm. It is important to note that all the Pool Villas have a steep drop-off from the terraces and infinity pool so parents with young children who wish to book such villas should be aware that they will have to be especially vigilant in safeguarding their young ones and toddlers from these potential dangers.

If it is luxury in paradise you are looking for, a chance to get away from the crowds and truly relax, the Pimalai could not be a better choice.
