25. SilkAir to Launch Singapore - Vientiane - Luang Prabang - Singapore Flights
SilkAir has unveiled plans to launch flights to Vientiane and Luang Prabang in Laos. From 31 October 2016, subject to applicable approvals, SilkAir will offer thrice weekly flights on Mondays, Thursdays and Saturdays. Flights will operate in a circular routing and will depart from Singapore for Vientiane, followed by Luang Prabang, before heading back to Singapore.

On Sunday, SilkAir, the regional wing of Singapore Airlines, became the first airline to fly the Boeing 737 MAX 8 to Australia. SilkAir Flight MI-801 touched down in Darwin, Australia on 7 January at 14:50 and was welcomed with a traditional water-cannon salute.

SilkAir has finalized an order with Boeing for 54 Next-Generation 737s and 737 MAX 8s worth $4.9 billion at list prices. With this agreement, the 737 MAX has accumulated 969 orders to date.
