41. Air Freight Volumes Flat After Recent Declines
IATA's data for global air freight markets show that in August 2015 freight markets stabilized after two months of decline. Asia Pacific carriers saw a fall in FTKs of 1.0% in August compared to August 2014, and capacity expanded 4.9%. 42. Air Freight Markets Make Strong Start to Year
IATA’s January 2014 performance data shows a strong rise in air freight growth compared to a year ago. Global freight tonne kilometers (FTKs) rose 4.5% in January compared to January 2013. This is a significant acceleration on the 2.2% year-on-year growth rate recorded in December, and is well above the 1.4% full-year growth reported for 2013 as compared to 2012.
43. Sluggish Air Cargo Growth Continues
IATA's data for global air freight markets in May 2015 shows continued growth. Compared to May 2014, growth in freight tonne kilometers (FTK) was 2.1%, the slowest rate this year and outpaced by a capacity expansion of 4.3%. On a year-to-date basis, freight volumes are up 4% on the previous year, but much of that growth was realized in the latter part of 2014.

IATA's global air freight data shows very modest growth in September 2015. Measured in Freight Tonne Kilometers, air cargo volumes rose 1.0% compared to the same month a year ago. This is a slight improvement on the August performance when volumes were broadly stable. Overall, however, air cargo volumes remain 1.2% down from their 2014 year-end peak.
46. Qantas Freight Takes Delivery of Two Boeing 747-8Fs
Qantas Freight has taken delivery of two Boeing 747-8F freighter aircraft. The freighters will be operated by Atlas Air, on behalf of Qantas. Each aircraft offers 20 per cent more freight capacity and space for seven extra cargo pallets compared to the 747-400F.

IATA’s August 2014 data for global air freight markets show continued robust growth in air cargo volumes. Measured by freight tonne kilometers (FTKs), volumes rose 5.1% in August, compared to August 2013. Capacity grew at a slower pace of 3.4% from the previous year. This is the second strong month for cargo volumes in a row, following the 6.1% year-on-year rise recorded in July.
48. Qantas Freight to Launch Darwin - Hong Kong Flights
Qantas Freight will launch a direct seasonal freight service from Darwin to Hong Kong next month. The new service, which will be the only direct cargo link between the Northern Territory and Hong Kong, will provide capacity to carry up to 50 tonnes of fresh produce such as chilled meat, seafood, dairy, fruit and vegetables, as well as general cargo.
