Page 7 of 8. The 2013 Standard Chartered Hong Kong Marathon took place on Sunday, 24 February 2013.

While the weather on Sunday was very overcast and cool, with just the occasional threat of rain, it thankfully remained dry for the runners, giving us almost perfect conditions for one of the most important marathon races in the region.

 Many people have asked why this Hong Kong Marathon, which is growing in popularity, not just locally, but with international athletes as well, takes place very early on a Sunday morning and not on a Saturday as marathons tend to elsewhere. The main reason is quite simply because of the size and vibrancy of Hong Kong. It is one of the most buzzing cities on earth, and as such the residents work very hard, but also play very hard, and Saturday is a normal working day for them. Plus because of its compact size, closing major stretches of roads for a full day causes all sorts of logistical problems. Another reason, is to avoid the possible heat. While Hong Kong tends to be quite cool in February, it can also be pretty hot from time to time, so running early morning is one way of avoiding that problem.
